Hey, I’m Nicki! I’ve been movement-obsessed since I was a kid, always opting for some form of fun physical activity. I played softball for 9 years, volleyball for 4, dipped a toe into non-competitive cheer, have been an amateur runner for 20+ years, snow ski, SUP, hike and generally love to be active outdoors. All of these physical elements have played a role informing my current movement interests, therefore informing how I teach!

My early years in yoga include underwhelming trainings in Hot 26 and Power Yoga, both styles of practice I quickly and happily abandoned. I then sought knowledgeable instructors and trainings, receiving guidance in my practice, learning more about smart Vinyasa sequencing, Ashtanga 1st + 2nd series, “yoga dance,” quickly fell in love with hand balancing/inversion work, and expanded my biomechanical knowledge with FRC mobility training.

I SPECIALIZE IN TEACHING INVERSIONS & JOINT MOBILITY.

I didn’t start learning how to do a handstand until my early 30s. My inversion practice techniques are rooted in yoga asana, so my teaching methods differ from that of a coach with a background in gymnastics/acro/cirq, and therefore may feel more accessible. I taught a weekly inversion class Flight Club/School for 8+ years in studios, including my own former studio in East LA (RIP Golden State Yoga). I now focus on in-person and online private sessions, in-person small group classes and specialized workshops with athletes of all ages/stages, those interested in seriously training the art of inversions, or those simply wanting to move with less pain and stiffness in general.

In 2017, I began integrating mobility training into my personal movement practice, as well as acquiring knowledge from dedicated instructors so that I could weave concepts into my teachings. I am certified in the worldwide accredited Functional Range Conditioning system which allows me to craft unique training plans for sport-specific injury prevention and overall joint health.

My former background in athletics, dedicated yoga asana practice and continued education to expand my sharable knowledge contribute to my current teaching style. I craft my sessions personally and conceptually. I do not play with set sequencing given to me by former yoga schools as I believe an individual’s movement needs are more nuanced than that. I offer specified drills & exercises in isolation, as well as flow through transitions to integrate movements. Together, we can work to improve overall strength, balance and stamina, increase usable range of motion, move fluidly without pain, sharpen inversion and hand balance techniques, or create a custom mobility training plan to keep you out of injury. I hold space for you to listen to your body, to explore the space between shapes, ask questions & challenge the edges of an exercise in order to make it work for you.

I currently teach online and at my studio Solar Movement Space in Steamboat Springs Colorado, my newest endeavor that allows me to continue sharing what I love in a community full of athletes of all ages + levels. I also travel-teach to Los Angeles and lead travel retreats!
